https://theconversation.com/5-reasons-the-coronavirus-hit-italy-so-hard-134636At this point in time, more than 2,000 people in the United States infected with the coronavirus have died, while in Italy, more than 10,000 people.
There are 5 reasons the coronavirus hit Italy so hard
1. Lots of old people
In 2018, 22.6% of its population was 65 or over, among the highest proportions in Europe, while Australia is 15.7%.
2. Close proximity
Hugs and cheek-kisses are common not just among family members but also friends and even work colleagues.
3. Dense population
Italy has an average density of 533 people per square mile, while the U.S. has 94.. However, it is nowhere close to Singapore - 21,646 people per mile.
4. Northern Italy is a business hub
Milan, in northern Italy, is the country’s financial capital, and has close trade and educational connections with China.
5. Massive number of cases
With far fewer people, Italy’s infection rate is much higher than China’s.
