How are countries "flattening the curve" of coronavirus?
https://www.theage.com.au/national/how-are-countries-flattening-the-curve-of-coronavirus-20200317-p54b3g.htmlWhat is “flattening the curve”? Flattening the curve means slowing how fast the virus moves through the community. The whole idea is to slow down the number of cases below the healthcare system capacity.
The number of cases over a period of time be represented by a curve. The top of the curve is known as the peak.
The rate (or how fast) of increase or decrease is reflected by the steepness of the curve. The steeper the curve moves upwards means the number is increasing more rapidly, and downwards indicates the contrary.
When the number increases very rapidly in a short space of time, it is normally described as increasing exponentially.
The article gives a very detailed explanations of how the curve can be flattened, to allow some breathing space for the doctors, economies (and vaccine-makers) to deal with the spread of the virus.
I shall explain more about other terms in my future blogs.
